Rated-R Reality Check: Backstage Report Squashes Rumors of Adam Copeland Leaving AEW for WWE/John Cena Match

A recent backstage segment on "AEW Dynamite" sparked immediate and intense speculation about an imminent WWE return for WWE Hall of Famer Adam Copeland (formerly Edge), but a new report has put those rumors to rest.

Following his victory with Christian Cage against FTR at AEW All Out, Copeland revealed he would be taking time off from All Elite Wrestling to attend to his family after his wife, Beth Phoenix, was attacked. With his AEW contract set to expire next month, this storyline departure led many to believe Copeland was heading back to WWE to potentially face his long-time rival, John Cena, on Cena's retirement tour.

However, according to a report from PWInsider Elite, any speculation about Copeland returning to WWE—even with AEW's blessing—to wrestle Cena is completely unfounded.

The most probable reason for the "Rated R Superstar’s" upcoming absence is his commitment to Hollywood. Production is set to begin next month for the next season of Disney+'s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, where Copeland is expected to reprise his role as Ares, The God of War.

Copeland's exit saw a heartfelt moment where he shook hands with Christian Cage, assuring his long-time teammate that he would always be part of his family. His time off appears to be a necessary break for acting duties, not a career change.
