Five-Star Manchester City Cruise Past Burnley in Dominant 5-1 Victory

Manchester City returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a comprehensive 5-1 demolition of Burnley at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

The scoreline was sealed by a late brace from star striker Erling Haaland, who put an emphatic end to a match that, for a spell, threatened to be a difficult afternoon for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Haaland and Esteve Share the Scoring

City took an early lead in the 12th minute when Burnley defender Maxime Estève unfortunately turned the ball into his own net after brilliant work down the flank by the impressive Jérémy Doku. However, Burnley shocked the home crowd by leveling the score seven minutes before halftime through Jaidon Anthony.

The second half saw City’s quality shine through. Matheus Nunes restored the lead in the 61st minute with a ferocious 12-yard volley, set up by an Erling Haaland nod-down. Minutes later, the unfortunate Maxime Estève scored his second own goal of the afternoon in the 65th minute, deflecting a cross past his own goalkeeper.

Erling Haaland then rounded off the five-star performance with two trademark poacher's finishes in the 90th and 90+3rd minutes, taking his season tally for club and country to a remarkable 13 goals.

The victory moves Manchester City up to third in the Premier League table.
