Belgium Enters Top 5 as FIBA Women's World Rankings See Major Shifts

The latest update to the FIBA Women's World Rankings reflects a dynamic period in international basketball, with recent continental championships causing significant shifts in the global standings. While the USA maintains its undisputed number one position, the top five has been reshuffled.

Belgium, fresh off a successful FIBA Women's EuroBasket campaign, celebrated by climbing one spot to enter the top five, pushing Spain down to sixth place. Australia and France held firm in second and third place, respectively, while China rounded out the top four.

The rankings also saw several teams make remarkable climbs, showcasing the impact of strong performances in recent tournaments. South Sudan, in a fairytale story, made the biggest leap, soaring an incredible 31 places to 55th in the world after finishing in a historic third place in their Afrobasket debut.

Other notable movers include Colombia, who surged 11 places to 19th following a top-five finish at the FIBA Women's AmeriCup. Meanwhile, Nigeria's D'Tigress cemented their status as a global force by moving up three spots to eighth, while Mali also saw a significant six-place jump to 18th. Lithuania also reaped the rewards of a strong EuroBasket performance, climbing 14 places to 31st.

The updated rankings underscore the growing competitiveness and talent pool in women's basketball across all continents.
