Algeria Dominates Co-Hosts Uganda in Clinical 3-0 Victory at CHAN 2024

Algeria opened their TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) PAMOJA 2024 campaign with a commanding 3-0 victory over co-hosts Uganda. The Desert Foxes delivered a composed and tactically efficient performance at a packed Nelson Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, leaving the home side with a challenging path ahead.

The opening Group C clash saw Algeria take the lead in the 36th minute when Ayoub Ghezala's glancing header from a corner kick beat the Ugandan goalkeeper. While the Cranes had moments of promise, they were unable to convert their chances.

Algeria's clinical edge became even more apparent in the second half. As Uganda pushed forward, Algeria exploited the space with two quick-fire goals. Abderrahmane Meziane doubled the lead in the 76th minute with a cool left-footed finish, and just three minutes later, Soufiane Bayazid sealed the result by slotting home from close range.

The victory extends Algeria's impressive CHAN record, which now includes 10 clean sheets in 13 matches and a seven-game unbeaten streak in the group stage. For Uganda, the loss is a significant setback in their quest to break a long-standing jinx of never progressing past the group stage in the tournament.

Uganda's head coach, Morley Byekwaso, and his team now face a difficult task with upcoming matches against Niger and South Africa. Algeria, on the other hand, will look to build on this strong start and could secure an early qualification to the knockout stages with another victory.
