The Jamaican standout upset the odds by defeating World Record holder Mykolas Alekna of Lithuania, who finished second with a mark of 66.77m. Alekna, widely considered the favorite after a season of throws beyond 70 meters — including a world record of 75.56m — could not match Mullings’ brilliance on the day.
Uladzislau Puchko of Virginia Tech took third place with a throw of 63.94m.
Mullings’ performance not only earned him NCAA gold but also solidified his reputation as one of the top young discus throwers in the world.
