Omanyala Claims 100m Crown, Onyango Strikes Back in 200m at Kenyan National Championships

Kenya’s sprint king Ferdinand Omanyala reaffirmed his dominance in the men’s 100m by clinching the national title at the 2025 National Athletics Championships held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi. Omanyala stormed to victory in 10.08 seconds (-0.5 m/s), fending off a strong challenge from Steve Odhiambo Onyango of the Kenya Defence Forces, who clocked 10.27 seconds to take silver.

Meshack Kitsubuli completed the podium with a 10.31-second finish, also representing the KDF.

However, the narrative flipped in the 200m showdown, where Onyango avenged his 100m loss by edging past Omanyala in a thrilling sprint. Onyango blazed to the title in 20.47 seconds, narrowly defeating Omanyala, who came in at 20.53 seconds.

Both sprinters showcased elite form, sending a strong signal ahead of upcoming international competitions, with Omanyala retaining his sprint supremacy in the short dash and Onyango emerging as a serious contender over the curve.
