UEFA is reportedly considering an unprecedented playoff match between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur to determine who will face Paris Saint-Germain in the upcoming UEFA Super Cup.
Traditionally, the Super Cup pits the Champions League winner against the Europa League winner. However, this season has presented a unique situation:
-
PSG won the UEFA Champions League,
-
Tottenham clinched the UEFA Europa League,
-
Chelsea lifted the UEFA Europa Conference League trophy.
According to reports by Caz_smors, UEFA is exploring the idea of a Chelsea vs Tottenham showdown, with the winner going on to meet PSG for the prestigious Super Cup. The move, if confirmed, would mark a major shift from past formats, acknowledging the growing competitiveness of all three European tournaments.
Official confirmation from UEFA is still pending.

ReplyDeleteThis development will give more relevance to the UEFA Europa conference league winners, it will further discourage the discrimination on the UEFA Europa conference league. This development will give hope to UEFA Europa conference league winner that they can compete for the super cup.
ReplyDeleteThe UEFA Champions League Winners will always be favourites for the Super Cup regardless (say 70%) but it gives Conference League ability to earn more and strive to be more competitive (Thanks Chelsea) you won't see any top European side (excluding England) there hopefully never
