Tsige Duguma produced a sensational performance to win the women’s 800m at the Keqiao Diamond League, clocking a World Lead of 1:56.64 and breaking the Ethiopian national record in the process.

The 23-year-old surged to the front with a powerful final 200m, pulling away from a strong field to secure a historic win. Her time not only tops the global list for 2024 so far but also cements her place among the world’s elite two-lap specialists.

Australia’s Sarah Billings ran the race of her life, finishing second in a massive personal best of 1:57.83, while Halimah Nakaayi of Uganda took third in 1:58.39, continuing her consistent form on the Diamond League circuit.

Duguma’s emphatic win signals a new chapter in Ethiopian middle-distance running, with more surely to come.
