The
MKO Abiola International Stadium in
Abeokuta, Ogun State has been newly renovated ahead of the
National Sports Festival (Gateway Games 2024). The major upgrade was inspected by
Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, who expressed confidence in the stadium's readiness to host the highly anticipated event.
The 2024 National Sports Festival, set to run from May 16 to May 30, 2025, is expected to welcome over 15,000 athletes from across the nation. Competitors will participate in 38 different sports, with the MKO Abiola Stadium serving as the main venue for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as major track and field events.
Governor Abiodun emphasized the significance of the renovation, stating that it reflects Ogun State's commitment to sports development and infrastructure. Local businesses are also gearing up for an economic boost, with thousands of athletes, officials, and visitors expected to flood Abeokuta during the two-week festival.
As Ogun State counts down to the official opening of the Gateway Games, the refurbished MKO Abiola Stadium stands as a symbol of readiness and pride for what is expected to be a grand celebration of Nigerian sportsmanship.
