Berihu Aregawi delivered a commanding performance to win the men’s 5000m at the Keqiao Diamond League, clocking a blistering 12:50.45 to set a new Meet Record and lead an all-Ethiopian podium sweep.
Aregawi was made to work for the victory, fending off a late surge from compatriot Kuma Girma, who produced a sensational run of his own, finishing second in 12:50.69—a massive personal best, slashing over 13 seconds from his previous mark.
Mezgebu Sime completed the Ethiopian dominance with a strong 12:51.86, also a personal best, as all three athletes broke the 12:52 barrier in one of the deepest 5000m fields of the season so far.
The trio’s performances underline Ethiopia’s remarkable depth in distance running, with Aregawi reaffirming his place among the elite.
