The 2025 COSAFA U17 Girls’ Championship concluded in Windhoek, Namibia, with Zambia emerging as champions after defeating Malawi 3-0 in the final. The tournament, held at the Hage Geingob Stadium, also recognized outstanding individual and team performances through its annual awards.
Top Honours for Zambia
Zambia's captain, Ruth Mukoma, was named Player of the Tournament, following her instrumental role in leading the Copper Princesses to their third COSAFA U17 title. Goalkeeper Bukata Kakumbi also received high praise, earning the Goalkeeper of the Tournament accolade for her impressive form, conceding just one goal in four matches.
In the final, Zambia’s Taonga Mubanga put on a stellar performance, earning the Finals’ Player of the Match award. Her decisive contributions helped secure Zambia's commanding 3-0 victory.
Golden Boot and Fair Play Recognition
Namibia’s Nancy Lebang claimed the Golden Boot for her remarkable scoring ability, netting seven goals throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, Malawi received the Fair Play Award for their exemplary conduct on and off the pitch, a fitting recognition despite their loss in the final.
These awards not only celebrate individual brilliance but also highlight the spirit of sportsmanship and skill demonstrated throughout the competition. Zambia’s continued success at the COSAFA U17 level reflects their commitment to developing young talent, as they now look ahead to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup later this year.
