In their opening Group D fixture at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in Philadelphia, Brazilian giants Flamengo delivered a dominant performance, defeating Espérance Sportive de Tunis 2–0 at Lincoln Financial Field.
From kick-off, Flamengo asserted control—dominating possession (80%) and limiting the Tunisian side to just two shot attempts. The breakthrough came in the 17th minute, when Luiz Araujo whipped in a precise delivery that set up Giorgian de Arrascaeta to guide a composed finish into the net.
Despite a brief resurgence in the second half—most notably through Youcef Belaili, whose curling effort and subsequent shot tested Flamengo keeper Augustin Rossi—the Brazilian side maintained control. Their dominance was reaffirmed in the 70th minute, when Araujo himself struck, finishing a slick move initiated by Jorginho, to double the lead.
This result places Flamengo level on points with Chelsea atop Group D, as the London side also claimed a 2–0 win earlier on the same day. Under the guidance of manager Filipe Luís—who has led the team to three domestic titles within 30 matches—Flamengo now set their sights on a pivotal showdown with Chelsea on Friday .
