Al Ahly’s reigning champions continued their march toward the CAF Champions League quarter-finals with a commanding 3-1 comeback win over Stade d’Abidjan in Cote d'Ivoire on Saturday. Egyptian midfielder Imam Ashour stole the show with a sensational hat-trick.
Stade d’Abidjan initially took the lead in the 26th minute through Saint-Jean Corre, but Ashour equalized early in the second half with a clinical finish. He then added a second in the 73rd minute, heading home a Khaled Abdel Fattah cross, before sealing his hat-trick in injury time with a powerful strike following a swift counterattack.
The victory propels Al Ahly to the top of Group C with 10 points, leaving Stade d’Abidjan languishing at the bottom with just one point.
