The 2022 CHAN is the 7th edition of the tournament and will hold between Friday 13th January 2023 to Saturday 4th February 2023. The tournament was originally scheduled to hold from 10th July to 1st August 2022, but a postponement of kickoff was announced on September 10, 2022 at an executive committee meeting via video conferencing. The 2022 edition witnessed a shift in date as a result of postponement of two previous editions due to Covid-19 in Africa and moreover because of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The AFRICAN NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIP, also known as CHAN is a biennial association football tournament organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for players playing Football in their respective local leagues.

Meanwhile, Morocco are the defending Champions, having won the 2020 edition in Cameroon.

Note that Morocco will finally participate in the 2022 edition after the country earlier announced the cancellation of its participation on Thursday due to closure of Algerian airspace to Moroccan planes.

According to the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "The Moroccan national team will travel tomorrow to Algeria to participate in CHAN._ The departure will be from Salé airport."
