Club World Cup Draw: Chelsea, Al Ahly get Opponents

By Emmanuel Oladele - European Champions Chelsea and South American Champions Palmeiras will commence their 2021 club world cup campaign in the Semifinals, as African Champions Al Ahly will play North American Champions to progress into the semi-final.

In the FIFA Club World Cup Draw held on Monday, the first round of the competition will see United Arab Emirates host team Al Jazira trade tackles with Oceania's nominated team Auckland City. The winner of the first round fixture will face Asian Champions Al Hilal in the second round, while the winner of the second round fixture slug it out with European Champions Chelsea in the semi-final.

In the second semi-final, Copa Libertadores Winners (South American Champions) Palmeiras will lock horns with the winner of the second round fixture between African Champions Al Ahly of Egypt and Mexico's Monterrey. The winner of each semi-final will meet in the final. See the Full Draw Results below;

- First Round

• Al Jazira (Host - UAE) vs Auckland City (Oceania's Nominated Team - New Zealand).

- Second Round

• Al Jazira or Auckland City vs Al Hilal (Asian Champions - Saudi Arabia).

• Al Ahly (African Champions - Egypt) vs Monterrey (North American Champions - Mexico).

- Semifinals

• Al Jazira or Auckland City or Al Hilal vs Chelsea (European Champions - England).

• Al Ahly or Monterrey vs Palmeiras (South American Champions - Argentina).

The competition was earlier scheduled to hold in Japan this year, but has been moved to UAE and will now hold early next year.
