Summer Series: Super Falcons fight until the very last minute to get Result against Portugal

By Emmanuel Oladele - The Super Falcons of Nigeria earlier today put up a good fight to get a fair result against 29th Ranked Portugal in the USA Summer Series. It was a very difficult game, but the Nigerians never stop fighting until the final minute.

Real Madrid defender Chidinma Okeke scored an own goal in the 21st minute to put the Portuguese ahead, 13 minutes later Carole Costa doubled Portugal's lead in the 34th minute. In the 44th minute, Nigeria got their first goal via a superb strike from Michelle Alozie to end the first half 2-1 in favour of the European side.

Portugal were the first to score after the resumption of the second half, Telma Encarnacao 49th minute strike earned the Portuguese a 3-1 lead.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria were determined, and they forced the scoreline to 3-2 in the 52nd minute courtesy of Diana Gomes own goal.

The Nigeria never relented until they got the equaliser in the 94th minute via a great strike from Rasheedat Ajibade, to end the game 3-3.

Generally, the Falcons had an improved performance, but coach Randy Waldrum will still have a lot of works to do on the defence as they face Number 1 ranked United State of America in their next game.

A 3-3 scoreline is a fair result for Nigeria which is ranked 38th in the world, against 29th ranked Portugal.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria lost their first game of the tournament to 51st ranked Jamaica by 1-0.
