Villarreal hosted the current and reigning La Liga champions Real Madrid inside the Estadio de la Cerámica with the hope of extending the unbeaten run in all competition to ten.

Estupiñán played a great through ball for Chukwueze, who was brought down by Thibaut Courtois with 15 minutes left. Gerard Moreno stepped up to take the following penalty, which he fired home.
