Nigerian Wrestler Successful in First WWE United States Title Defense, Knows Next Opponent

By Olamide Oyetunji - Reigning World Wrestling Entertainment United States Champion Apollo Crews has successfully defended his maiden title as promised on Monday night RAW.

Apollo Crews who shocked the world when he dethroned Andrade of the United States Championship in the May 25 edition of Monday night RAW to capture his first title since joining the company five years ago.

As promised, Apollo Crews didn't take a breather after winning the title and was ready to defend his title against an opponent of his choice.

Champion Apollo Crews successful defended his title against an opponent of his choosing in a controversial manner, Crews named Kevin Owens as his opponent and said he deserves the opportunity. Owens told Crews that he was worried the champion gave him the match out of pity.

Crews said it was a matter of respect, so Owens accepted the match. Owens said he felt bad because he would end Crews’ title reign. In the match,

Both competitors exchanged strikes and fell out of the ring while they punched each other. Back in the ring, the match was a stalemate. Owens regained control, but Crews rocked him with a kick and an Olympic Slam for a near fall. A standing Moonsault earned Crews another two count.

Owens floored Crews with a superkick, but Crews blocked another senton. Angel Garza and Andrade interfere in the match by attacking Crews and Owens, and the referee called for the bell which made the match to end in a Double Disqualification but with Apollo Crews still the WWE United States Champion.

The match restarted as a tag team match between Apollo Crews/Kevin Owens and Andrade Cien Almas/ Angel Garza. Garza and Andrade controlled the match early on and grounded Crews.

The WWE United States Champion tagged Owens, but Andrade retained control. Owens floored Andrade with a clothesline, but a distraction from Garza allowed Andrade to rock Owens with a kick. Crews tagged in and dropped Andrade with an Olympic Slam. Garza took Owens down with a cheap shot, but Crews still pinned Andrade with a modified powerbomb to win the match.

Meanwhile, another WWE wrestler has put the Benue State athletic gem on notice for the United States Championship immediately after the conclusion of the tag team match-up.

Dominik Dijakovic who is WWE NXT superstar of Croatia Descent has notified Apollo Crews of his intention to move to the red brand and fight on Monday night RAW for the United States belt.

Dominik Dijakovic will go facing Keith Lee for the North American championship, to facing Apollo Crews for the United States title according to his latest tweet.
