Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has admitted Barcelona Legend Lionel Messi as his toughest opponent. Virgil van Dijk was asked on Twitter during a question and answer session to name his toughest opponent and he responded with, "there are some difficult strikers out there but probably Leo Messi."
The Liverpool top defender played against Lionel Messi in last season's UEFA Champions League Semi-final where Barcelona defeated Liverpool by 3-0 in the first leg with Lionel Messi grabbing a brace in the encounter. Messi in the game obviously destroyed a defensive line-up led by Virgil van Dijk at Camp Nou.
During the return leg at Anfield, Liverpool had a massive comeback in the game and destroyed the Barcelona team led by Lionel Messi with an emphatic 4-0 victory that fired the Red to the final of the competition, where they emerged Champions.
