MADRID, Spain: Carlos Alcaraz will lead Spain’s five-man squad at the 2026 Davis Cup Finals in Bologna, Italy, after captain David Ferrer announced his selection for the season-ending team competition.
The world No. 3 headlines a strong Spanish line-up featuring Rafael Jódar, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martínez as the country targets its first Davis Cup title since 2019.
Spain finished as runners-up in the previous edition and will begin its latest campaign against Austria in the quarter-finals on 26 November.
Alcaraz Returns to Davis Cup Duty
Alcaraz’s inclusion is a major boost for Spain, with the seven-time Grand Slam champion returning to the national team after missing the competition in 2025.
The 23-year-old missed four months of the season because of a wrist injury before returning at the US Open. He subsequently won the Japan Open in Tokyo earlier this month, underlining his readiness to lead Spain’s challenge.
Despite his individual success, the Davis Cup remains a major team prize that Alcaraz is eager to add to his collection.
His presence gives Spain a leading singles option as the team attempts to go one step further than last year’s campaign.
Davidovich Fokina and Jódar Strengthen Spain’s Challenge
Ferrer has also selected Davidovich Fokina and rising talent Jódar to strengthen Spain’s singles options.
Marcel Granollers brings valuable doubles experience, while Pedro Martínez provides further depth to the squad.
Announcing the team, Ferrer expressed his satisfaction at having his preferred players available and described Spain as one of the favourites for the title.
The selection combines established international experience with emerging talent as Spain prepares for a demanding knockout competition.
Spain Face Austria in Quarter-Finals
Spain will meet Austria in the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup Finals, scheduled to take place in Bologna from 24 to 29 November.
A victory would send the Spanish team into a potential semi-final against either Great Britain or Germany.
Spain have won the Davis Cup six times, with their most recent triumph coming in 2019. Their return to the final last year demonstrated their continued competitiveness, but Ferrer’s squad will need to navigate a difficult knockout draw to lift the trophy again.
With Alcaraz leading the challenge, Spanish supporters will hope the team can turn its strong selection into a successful campaign.
