IKENNE, Nigeria — The Super Falcons produced a commanding performance to defeat Comoros 5-0 in the second leg of their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying tie at the Remo Stars Stadium on Tuesday, completing a 7-0 aggregate victory.
The result sends the 10-time African champions into the third round of the CAF Women’s Olympic Qualifiers, where they will face Morocco in March 2027.
Nigeria entered the match with a 2-0 lead from the first leg, courtesy of goals from Michelle Alozie and Uchenna Kanu. Interim coach Augustine Eguavoen’s side showed no signs of complacency and controlled the contest from the outset.
Toni Payne opened the scoring in the 41st minute. Uchenna Kanu pressed the Comoros goalkeeper, won possession, and set up Payne, who finished calmly to give Nigeria a 1-0 half-time lead.
The Super Falcons increased their dominance after the break. Kanu headed home from Folashade Ijamilusi’s cross in the 57th minute to make it 2-0. Payne completed her brace six minutes later, converting a chance created by substitute Blessing Okpe.Kanu added her second goal of the afternoon in the 66th minute, again heading in from an Ijamilusi delivery. The scoring was completed in the 72nd minute when Christy Ucheibe converted a penalty after Okpe was fouled inside the box.
The 5-0 victory extended Nigeria’s aggregate advantage to seven goals and underlined the gulf in quality between the two sides. Comoros, who had advanced to this stage with a 30-0 aggregate win over Sudan, offered little resistance against a Super Falcons team determined to progress.
Eguavoen’s side created numerous chances throughout the match and maintained defensive solidity, with goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie largely untested. The result provides a strong foundation as Nigeria continue their campaign for a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Nigeria now turn their attention to the third-round clash with Morocco, a side that reached the final of the recent Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The Super Falcons will aim to build on this dominant display as they pursue one of Africa’s two available Olympic berths.Goal scorers (Nigeria)
