Shooting Stars Warn Fans after a Poor Start, and Ban Violence

IBADAN, Nigeria — Shooting Stars have acknowledged a start they did not want, asked supporters for patience, and warned that violence or abuse against staff will bring an immediate stadium ban.

The statement, posted on the club’s official Facebook page and signed by management, says the results are not what the board or the fans expected. It thanks supporters at home and away, and asks for calm while the club tries to get back to winning ways.

The warning is the sharper half of the release. Management says it will not tolerate violence, threats, intimidation, or verbal or physical abuse against anyone from the executive chairman to the sporting director, the technical adviser, coaches, technical staff and players. Disappointment can be expressed, it says, within the law. Anyone found engaging in abusive or violent conduct will be banned from matches immediately and may be referred to the authorities.

“This is a challenging period, but the season is still young, and there is much to play for,” the statement says. “Together, we will turn this around.”

The form that prompted it includes a 4-2 defeat to Enyimba. Shooting Stars are away to Kun Khalifat on Sunday at 16:00 WAT, a matchday-eight game that is not on the NPFL or MBI channels. The statement does not name a coach, a table position or a single result. It names the conduct the club will not accept, and the support it still wants.
