Paris — Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has successfully undergone surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee, with the Georgia international now beginning rehabilitation.
PSG confirmed the successful operation on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, after the 25-year-old sustained the serious injury during the club’s 4–2 UEFA Champions League victory over Barcelona last week. The procedure took place in Doha, Qatar.
The injury is a major setback for the French champions as they pursue further success in domestic and European competitions.
Kvaratskhelia Begins Rehabilitation
Kvaratskhelia twisted his right knee shortly before the hour mark during PSG’s victory over Barcelona on 20 October. He was subsequently helped off the pitch, raising immediate concerns about the severity of the injury.
Medical examinations confirmed a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament, prompting the club to announce that surgery would be required.
“He will now begin his rehabilitation,” PSG said in a statement.
ACL injuries generally require at least six months of recovery, although the precise rehabilitation period varies between players. PSG have not announced a definitive return date for the Georgian winger, leaving uncertainty over when he could resume competitive action.
Major Blow for PSG
Kvaratskhelia has become an important attacking figure for PSG since arriving from Napoli in January 2025. His dribbling, creativity and ability to operate across the forward line have made him a valuable option for head coach Luis Enrique.
His absence will reduce PSG’s attacking options during a demanding period of the season, particularly as the club attempts to maintain its challenge in the Champions League and Ligue 1.
The injury also comes after a successful spell with the Parisian club, during which Kvaratskhelia helped PSG secure major honours and establish themselves among Europe’s leading sides.
Kvaratskhelia Faces Long Road Back
The immediate priority for Kvaratskhelia will be rehabilitation and a gradual return to full fitness. Recovery from ACL surgery requires patience, structured medical supervision and a carefully managed progression back to training.
PSG will hope the winger can eventually return to his best level, but the club is yet to provide a specific timetable for his comeback.
For now, the Georgian international faces an extended spell away from competitive football as he works towards returning to action.
