Auckland, New Zealand — New Zealand have announced an extended 21-player squad for their five-match One Day International series against India, with Rachin Ravindra returning from injury and Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson and Tim Seifert set for ODI comebacks.
Mitchell Santner will captain the Black Caps in the series, which begins on 4 November at Eden Park in Auckland. The squad has been divided into two groups, with several players leaving after the third match to prepare for the subsequent Test series.
Ravindra returns after shoulder injury
Ravindra is included in the squad for the first three ODIs after recovering from a shoulder injury that ruled him out of New Zealand’s preceding T20 international series.
The left-handed all-rounder’s return strengthens New Zealand’s batting and gives the team another option with the ball as they prepare to face India on home soil.
Mark Chapman has also been selected for the ODI series despite missing the T20 fixtures because of a hamstring injury.
Allen, Ferguson and Seifert earn ODI recalls
Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson and Tim Seifert will join the squad for the final two matches, offering New Zealand additional firepower in the closing stages of the series.
Allen and Ferguson last played an ODI in 2023, while Seifert’s most recent appearance in the format came during New Zealand’s home series against Pakistan approximately 18 months ago.
Head coach Rob Walter said the series would provide valuable opportunities to assess the squad’s depth ahead of the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
He also highlighted the value of giving players who have impressed in the T20 format an opportunity to establish themselves in the longer white-ball game.

First three ODIs
Fourth and fifth ODIs
New Zealand Cricket confirmed that Zak Foulkes, Will O’Rourke and Ben Sears were not considered for selection as they continue rehabilitation for hip flexor, calf and ankle injuries respectively.
ODI series schedule
The five-match series will be played across four venues in New Zealand.
First ODI: 4 November — Auckland
Second ODI: 7 November — Wellington
Third ODI: 10 November — Hamilton
Fourth ODI: 13 November — Mount Maunganui
Fifth ODI: 15 November — Mount Maunganui
The teams will then contest a two-match Test series beginning on 19 November in Wellington.
World Cup preparation in focus
With the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup scheduled to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, the series offers both teams an opportunity to assess their options and build combinations ahead of the tournament.
For New Zealand, the split squad also allows selected players to begin preparations for the Test matches without compromising the hosts’ ability to field a competitive side in the final two ODIs.
The return of Ravindra and the inclusion of several experienced white-ball players give Santner’s side a range of options as they prepare for a demanding series against India.
