Nasarawa Amazons cruise into Governor Douye Diri Tournament semi-finals with 3-1 win over Rangers Women

Yenagoa, Nigeria — Nasarawa Amazons secured their place in the semi-finals of the Governor Douye Diri Women’s Pre-Season Football Tournament after defeating Rangers Women 3-1 on Matchday Four in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The Lafia-based side made a strong start, scoring three first-half goals to put themselves in control before Rangers pulled one back in the 31st minute.

Okon and Deborah fire Amazons into commanding lead

Nasarawa Amazons took the lead in the 12th minute through Okon Blessing, who gave the Lafia Landladies an early advantage.

Okoraofor Deborah extended the lead with an excellent finish after rounding the Rangers goalkeeper. She then completed her brace shortly afterwards to put Nasarawa Amazons 3-0 ahead.

Rangers Women responded in the 31st minute, beating Nasarawa goalkeeper Okoye Chioma to reduce the deficit to 3-1.

Nasarawa Amazons maintained their two-goal advantage until half-time.

Amazons hold firm after the break

Both teams created opportunities in the second half, but neither could find the net again as Nasarawa Amazons protected their lead to secure all three points.

The victory confirmed the Lafia Landladies’ qualification for the semi-finals, keeping their hopes of winning the pre-season tournament alive.

Bayelsa Queens await in the semi-finals

Nasarawa Amazons will face hosts Bayelsa Queens in the semi-finals as they continue their campaign for silverware at the Governor Douye Diri Women’s Pre-Season Football Tournament.

The result marks an important step for the Lafia side as they build momentum ahead of the new season.
