MLB Postpones ALCS Game 4 as Rain Delays Guardians-Rays Clash

Cleveland, United States — Major League Baseball has officially postponed Game 4 of the American League Championship Series between the Cleveland Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays because of persistent rain in Cleveland.

The game had been scheduled for Friday night at Progressive Field, but the adverse weather conditions prevented the contest from going ahead. MLB confirmed that the matchup would instead take place on Saturday, 17 October.

The postponement comes at a crucial stage of the best-of-seven series, with Cleveland leading Tampa Bay 2–1 and looking to move within one victory of securing a place in the World Series.

Revised ALCS schedule confirmed

MLB has adjusted the remaining schedule, moving Game 4 to Saturday and bringing Game 5 forward to Sunday, 18 October.

The revised schedule is:

• Game 4: Tampa Bay Rays vs Cleveland Guardians — Saturday, 17 October, at 8:08 p.m. ET.

• Game 5: Tampa Bay Rays vs Cleveland Guardians — Sunday, 18 October, at 5:08 p.m. ET.

• Game 6, if necessary: Cleveland Guardians vs Tampa Bay Rays — Monday, 19 October, at 8:08 p.m. ET.

• Game 7, if necessary: Tampa Bay Rays vs Cleveland Guardians — Tuesday, 20 October, at 8:08 p.m. ET.

Games 6 and 7 are scheduled to take place in Tampa Bay if the series extends that far.

Guardians hold advantage after Game 3 victory

Cleveland entered the postponed contest with a 2–1 series advantage after beating Tampa Bay 3–2 in Game 3 on Thursday.

Petey Halpin’s two-run home run proved decisive in that contest, giving the Guardians a valuable lead in the series.

Cleveland will now have another opportunity to strengthen its position in front of its home supporters, while Tampa Bay must find a way to level the series and prevent the Guardians from moving closer to the American League pennant.

Pitching plans remain in focus

The scheduled Game 4 pitching matchup features Tampa Bay right-hander Nick Martinez against Cleveland’s Shawn Armstrong, who is expected to open a bullpen game for the Guardians.

The additional day could affect workload management and preparation for both teams as they navigate the final stages of the postseason.

With the series finely balanced and the schedule compressed, Game 4 carries significant importance for both clubs. Cleveland will be aiming to take a 3–1 lead, while Tampa Bay will be desperate to make it 2–2 before Sunday's game.
