Matchday 1 Results in Full: Gor Mahia and Tusker FC begin FKF Premier League campaign with victories

Nairobi — Defending champions Gor Mahia opened their 2026/27 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League campaign with a 4–2 victory over Murang’a Seal, while Tusker FC also secured three points with a 2–0 win against Ulinzi Stars.

The opening round of Kenya’s top-flight competition began on Saturday, 10 October, and concluded on Wednesday, 14 October, with nine fixtures played across the country.

Kakamega Homeboyz and Shabana FC also recorded victories, while last season’s runners-up, AFC Leopards, were held to a goalless draw by Bandari.

Gor Mahia recover to defeat Murang’a Seal

Gor Mahia made an impressive start against Murang’a Seal, racing into a four-goal advantage before conceding twice late in the contest.

Alpha Onyango opened the scoring inside the first five minutes, setting the tone for the defending champions. Shariff Musa then scored twice, while South Sudan international Jackson Dwang also found the net to complete Gor Mahia’s four-goal tally.

Murang’a Seal managed two late goals, but the champions had already done enough to secure their opening victory.

The result gives Gor Mahia an early boost as they pursue another league title after winning the 2025/26 championship.

Tusker start strongly against Ulinzi Stars

Tusker FC began their league campaign with a convincing 2–0 away victory over Ulinzi Stars on Sunday, 11 October.

Nigerian forward Victor Mbaoma scored on his FKF Premier League debut, giving the Brewers an encouraging start to the season.

Tusker finished ninth last season but have already enjoyed success in the domestic cup and defeated Gor Mahia in the FKF Super Cup before the league campaign began.

They will now turn their attention to continental competition, with an important CAF Confederation Cup assignment against Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars ahead.

Shabana and Kakamega Homeboyz claim wins

Shabana FC began their campaign with a narrow 1–0 away victory over Posta Rangers on Saturday, while Kakamega Homeboyz defeated newly promoted Mombasa United by the same scoreline on Wednesday.

Both sides will be encouraged by their winning starts as they seek to establish themselves among the early contenders in the league.

AFC Leopards held by Bandari

AFC Leopards were unable to find a breakthrough in their opening fixture, drawing 0–0 with Bandari on Wednesday.

The result was a frustrating start for last season’s runners-up, who will be looking to challenge Gor Mahia for the title this term.

Several other teams also shared the points during the opening round, including Police FC and Migori Youth, as well as Nairobi United and KCB.

Gor Mahia set the early pace

Gor Mahia and Tusker will take confidence from their opening victories, while Shabana and Kakamega Homeboyz also have three points on the board.

With the campaign still in its early stages, the opening results provide only an initial indication of the teams’ form. The coming rounds will offer a clearer picture of the title race and the battle to establish a comfortable position in the standings.

For Gor Mahia, the immediate objective will be to build on their attacking display while tightening up defensively after conceding twice late against Murang’a Seal.
