Kelechi Iheanacho Explains Bursaspor Move After Celtic Exit

Bursa, Turkey — Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has revealed how his representatives helped facilitate his move to Turkish second-tier club Bursaspor, explaining that he was convinced by the opportunity after his agent outlined the club’s proposal.

The Nigerian forward joined Bursaspor in July 2026 after leaving Scottish champions Celtic, where he scored nine goals in 24 appearances across all competitions during the 2025/26 season.

Speaking to Bursaspor TV, Iheanacho said he preferred to concentrate on his football while leaving transfer negotiations to his agent and the clubs involved.

“To be fair, I don’t talk about transfers. I really try to concentrate on my football. The transfer talks were done with the agents and directors,” he said.

The 30-year-old added that his agent informed him of Bursaspor’s interest and explained the details before he agreed to the move.

“He explained everything to me in detail. I was happy, and I said yes,” Iheanacho revealed.

Agent’s explanation convinced Iheanacho

The former Manchester City and Leicester City striker said the discussions helped him understand the opportunity presented by the Turkish club.

“It’s a good and interesting place, according to how he told me about it. We went through everything together, and we saw it was a very concrete situation,” he added.

Iheanacho’s departure from Celtic came after his contract situation was left unresolved, despite his contribution to the Scottish club’s domestic success.

His move to Turkey marked a fresh chapter in his career, with Bursaspor offering him the opportunity to become a central figure in their promotion ambitions.

Iheanacho rewards Bursaspor’s faith

The Nigerian has made an impressive start to life in Turkey’s second division. According to Pan Africa Football, he has scored 16 goals and provided three assists in 12 league appearances.

His performances have strengthened Bursaspor’s attacking options and justified the club’s decision to bring him in during the summer transfer window.

The forward’s form has also kept him in the conversation around Nigeria’s national team, as he seeks to maintain his scoring touch at club level and contribute to the Super Eagles.

Promotion remains the bigger ambition

Bursaspor are targeting a return to the Turkish Süper Lig after working their way back up the country’s football pyramid.

Iheanacho previously explained that the club’s ambition to return to the top flight and eventually compete in Europe appealed to him. He said helping the team achieve promotion was more important than individual milestones.

The striker will now look to continue his strong start and help Bursaspor turn their ambitions into results as the season progresses.
