Ipswich Town stun Fulham with dramatic late comeback to claim 2-1 victory

Ipswich, England — Ipswich Town produced a dramatic late turnaround to defeat Fulham 2–1 at Portman Road on Saturday, 10 October 2026, scoring twice in the closing stages to snatch all three Premier League points after falling behind.

Ryan Sessegnon had put Fulham ahead in the second half, but Abdoul Ouattara levelled with a spectacular long-range strike in the 88th minute before captain Dara O’Shea headed home the winner in stoppage time.

The result rewarded Ipswich’s persistence and left Fulham frustrated after they had appeared on course for their first league victory of the season.

Sessegnon puts Fulham in front

Fulham enjoyed spells of possession and looked the more composed side for much of the contest, creating opportunities while limiting Ipswich’s attacking threat.

Their pressure eventually produced the breakthrough in the 55th minute. Ryan Sessegnon found the net with a powerful strike from distance to give the visitors a 1–0 lead.

The goal placed Ipswich under pressure to respond, with Gary O’Neil’s side needing to find a way through Fulham’s defensive structure.

Ouattara produces a stunning equaliser

Ipswich continued to push forward as the match entered its closing stages, refusing to accept defeat on home soil.

Their persistence paid off in the 88th minute when Ouattara unleashed a superb long-range effort to beat the Fulham goalkeeper and make it 1–1.

The equaliser transformed the atmosphere at Portman Road and gave the hosts renewed belief that they could complete the turnaround.

O’Shea seals victory in stoppage time

Ipswich were not finished. Deep into stoppage time, Jack Clarke delivered a free-kick into the penalty area, where captain O’Shea rose above the defence to head home the decisive goal.

The late strike sparked celebrations among the home supporters and completed a remarkable comeback from a side that had been trailing just minutes earlier.

For Fulham, the defeat was another painful setback after they had controlled important periods of the match but failed to protect their advantage.

Fulham’s winless run continues

The result will provide Ipswich with a significant boost as they continue their return to the Premier League. Their late response demonstrated determination and an ability to keep competing even when the game appeared to be slipping away.

Fulham, meanwhile, will be concerned by their inability to close out another match. Despite taking the lead, they left Portman Road without a point and remain under pressure to turn their performances into victories.

Ipswich will now prepare for their next league fixture against Manchester City, while Fulham will look to regroup before hosting Hull City.
