LAGOS, Nigeria — Inter Lagos head coach Shakiru Giwa has stepped down from his position, with the club confirming that the entire technical crew has been dissolved with immediate effect.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, making Giwa the first coach to leave his role in the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
Giwa had been in charge of the newly promoted side since their successful campaign in the Nigeria National League. The Lagos-based club have endured a difficult start to life in the top flight, collecting limited points and sitting near the bottom of the table.
The resignation comes amid a challenging period for Inter Lagos, who have also faced disciplinary sanctions from the league following incidents during a recent home fixture.
Club management moved swiftly after Giwa’s departure, dissolving the full technical staff. No interim coach has yet been named as the club begins the process of appointing a new technical team.
Giwa leaves having guided Inter Lagos through their transition into the NPFL. The club will now seek a new direction as they look to improve results and climb away from the lower reaches of the standings.
Further details on the appointment of a successor are expected in the coming days.
