Košice, Slovakia: Ghana international goalkeeper Joseph Wollacott has joined Slovak top-flight side FC Košice on a short-term contract running until the end of 2026, with the club retaining an option to extend his stay into 2027.
The 30-year-old, also known as Joe Wollacott, arrives after leaving English club Crawley Town in July 2026. His signing is intended to strengthen FC Košice’s goalkeeping department for the remainder of the year.
Wollacott to compete for starting position
Wollacott had already spent approximately two weeks training with the Slovak club before the agreement was finalised. He will compete with Matúš Kira and Filip Kalanin for the starting goalkeeper role.
FC Košice moved to reinforce the position following the departure of Kevin Dabrowski towards the end of the summer transfer window.
The club’s sporting director, Terry Westley, said Wollacott’s experience, professionalism and willingness to work with the existing goalkeepers influenced the decision to sign him.
Westley also highlighted the importance of having an experienced option available for the club’s upcoming fixtures.
From Crawley Town to Slovak football
Wollacott made 25 appearances for Crawley Town during the 2025/26 season, recording six clean sheets as the club finished 14th in League Two.
The goalkeeper has also played for several clubs in English football, including Bristol City, Forest Green Rovers, Swindon Town and Charlton Athletic. He spent the 2023/24 campaign with Scottish side Hibernian and has also had experience in Israeli football.
His move to FC Košice offers an opportunity to continue his career in a new environment and compete for regular first-team football.
Ghana international targets regular football
Born in Bristol, England, Wollacott represents Ghana internationally and has earned 12 senior caps for the Black Stars. He was also part of Ghana’s squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Regular appearances at club level could strengthen his prospects of returning to contention for the national team as Ghana continue to assess their goalkeeping options.
Wollacott will now look to establish himself at FC Košice, with competition for the starting position expected to be a key part of his immediate challenge.
The initial contract runs until 31 December 2026, while the extension option gives both parties the possibility of continuing the partnership into 2027.
