Florence, Italy — Fiorentina and Atalanta played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Thursday, 29 October 2026, as both sides missed the opportunity to end their winless runs in Serie A.
Atalanta took the lead through Charles De Ketelaere before Fiorentina turned the game around with second-half goals from Alieu Njie and João Mário. However, Nicola Zalewski struck late to earn the visitors a share of the points.
The result extended Fiorentina’s winless home run in the league to eight matches, while Atalanta remained without a victory in their last four outings.
De Ketelaere gives Atalanta first-half advantage
Fiorentina started brightly, with Franco Mastantuono testing Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi as the hosts looked to take control.
Atalanta gradually settled into the contest and threatened through Eljif Elmas, whose effort was blocked before Gianluca Gaetano and Mastantuono missed opportunities at either end.
The visitors eventually broke the deadlock in the 41st minute. Nicola Zalewski delivered a cross into the penalty area, and De Ketelaere arrived to sweep the ball into the net.
Atalanta almost doubled their advantage before the interval, but Fiorentina goalkeeper David De Gea produced an excellent save to deny Nikola Krstović's header.
Njie and João Mário turn the game around
Fiorentina returned from the break with renewed determination and found an equaliser in the 53rd minute.
Alieu Njie scored his first goal for the club with a diving header at the far post, converting an excellent cross from Álex Jiménez.
The hosts continued to push forward and completed the turnaround eight minutes later. João Mário cut inside and fired towards goal, with a heavy deflection wrong-footing Carnesecchi as Fiorentina moved ahead 2-1.
The goal was João Mário's first since joining Fiorentina on loan from Juventus.
Zalewski rescues a point for Atalanta
Atalanta refused to accept defeat and increased their attacking pressure in search of an equaliser.
Krstović missed a promising opportunity, but the visitors eventually found their way back into the contest in the 74th minute.
De Ketelaere played the ball into Zalewski, who finished low inside the near post to make it 2-2 and restore parity.
Both teams pushed for a winning goal during the closing stages. Marco Brescianini saw a close-range effort blocked, while De Gea denied another attempt from De Ketelaere.
Neither side could find a decisive breakthrough, and the points were shared.
Winless runs continue for both teams
The draw offered little relief to either club as they continued to struggle for consistency in the Italian top flight.
Fiorentina moved up to 18th but remained in the relegation zone, extending their winless league run to five matches.
Atalanta stayed 12th and extended their winless sequence to four games, although the draw ended their run of four consecutive away defeats.
Álex Jiménez was named Flashscore's Man of the Match after providing the assist for Njie's equaliser and making an important contribution to Fiorentina's attacking play.
