Borussia Dortmund stunned by Bodø/Glimt in Champions League defeat

Bodø, Norway — Borussia Dortmund suffered a 1–0 defeat away to Bodø/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, after Fredrik Sjøvold scored the decisive goal early in the second half.

Dortmund struggled to impose themselves for much of the contest at Aspmyra Stadion and were unable to find an equaliser despite creating several opportunities during a more energetic late spell.

The result was a significant achievement for the Norwegian side, who took advantage of their home conditions to secure all three points.

Bodø/Glimt threaten before half-time

The hosts began with greater attacking purpose and created several opportunities in the opening stages.

Sondre Brunstad Fet came close to opening the scoring in the 19th minute, but his effort narrowly missed the target.

Dortmund struggled to establish sustained control, with the teams going into the interval level at 0–0.

Sjøvold breaks the deadlock

The decisive moment arrived in the 52nd minute when Fredrik Sjøvold scored for Bodø/Glimt following a move involving Auklend.

The goal rewarded the hosts for their approach and left Dortmund needing to respond.

Dortmund head coach Niko Kovač introduced several substitutes around the hour mark in an attempt to change the momentum, including Serhou Guirassy, Felix Nmecha, Ethan Nwaneri and Julian Ryerson.

Dortmund push for an equaliser

The German side improved after the substitutions, with Nmecha testing goalkeeper Nikita Haikin from distance.

Guirassy also came close to scoring after a dangerous attacking move, while Nwaneri and other Dortmund players created further opportunities as the visitors pressed for a late equaliser.

Haikin proved difficult to beat, making important saves in the closing stages. Dortmund’s final efforts failed to produce a breakthrough, and the hosts held on for victory.

A setback for Dortmund

The 1–0 defeat represents a frustrating result for Dortmund after their previous Champions League victory over Villarreal.

Kovač acknowledged that the team had rotated its starting line-up because of a demanding schedule and travel commitments. However, Dortmund’s lack of intensity before falling behind proved costly.

Bodø/Glimt, meanwhile, can take confidence from defeating another established European club and demonstrating their ability to compete at this level.
