SEKONDI, Ghana — The Black Queens delivered a dominant performance to defeat Mauritius 7-0 in the second leg of their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying tie at the Essipong Stadium on Tuesday, completing a 10-0 aggregate victory.
The result sends Ghana into the third round of the CAF Women’s Olympic Qualifiers, where they will face either Zambia or Uganda.
Ghana entered the match with a 3-0 advantage from the first leg in Mauritius. Coach Kim Lars Björkgren’s side showed no mercy on home soil and took control early.
Evelyn Badu opened the scoring in the ninth minute. Captain Portia Boakye and Ajegipina Zakaria added further goals before half-time to give the Black Queens a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break.
After the interval, substitute Benedicte Simon extended the advantage in the 73rd minute. Jennifer Cudjoe converted a penalty in the 86th minute, before Mukarama Abdulai, returning from a lengthy injury layoff, marked her comeback with a brace to complete the emphatic 7-0 win.
The Black Queens controlled possession throughout and created numerous opportunities against a Mauritius side that struggled to contain their attacking intensity. Ghana kept a clean sheet across both legs of the tie.
The victory keeps Ghana’s hopes of a first-ever appearance at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament alive. The Black Queens have never qualified for the Olympic Games since the introduction of women’s football in 1996.
Attention now turns to the third round, scheduled for February 2027, as Ghana continue their pursuit of a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
