All Blacks suffer major injury blow as four players ruled out of Sydney Test

Auckland, New Zealand — New Zealand have suffered a significant injury setback ahead of the second Bledisloe Cup Test against Australia, with four All Blacks ruled out after their emphatic 50–19 victory over the Wallabies at Eden Park.

Hooker Asafo Aumua, loose forward Anton Segner, winger Leroy Carter and flanker Ethan Blackadder will all miss next Saturday’s encounter at Accor Stadium in Sydney.

The injuries leave head coach Dave Rennie facing several changes as the All Blacks prepare for the return fixture, despite their dominant performance in the opening Test.

Aumua and Segner fail head-injury assessments

Aumua and Segner have been ruled out after failing their second head-injury assessments. Both players must observe a minimum 12-day stand-down period under the applicable concussion protocols.

New Zealand Rugby confirmed that hooker George Bell and loose forward Du’Plessis Kirifi have been called up as their replacements.

The changes will require the All Blacks to adjust their forward options as they seek to maintain their advantage over Australia in the two-match Bledisloe Cup series.

Carter suffers serious ankle injury

Carter’s absence follows an injury sustained while scoring a try during Saturday’s 50–19 win at Eden Park.

The winger suffered a high ankle sprain and left the ground on crutches. His injury raises questions about his availability for New Zealand’s upcoming international commitments, although the full recovery timeline has not been confirmed.

Experienced midfielder Anton Lienert-Brown has been added to the squad as Carter’s replacement, providing Rennie with another option in the backline.

Blackadder injured before kick-off

Blackadder’s injury came during the warm-up before the first Test. The loose forward sustained a calf injury and has consequently been ruled out of the Sydney match.

Jamie Hannah has been added to the squad to cover his absence.

The four replacements will travel with the rest of the All Blacks squad to Australia as preparations continue for the second Test.

All Blacks seek to maintain dominance

New Zealand head into the Sydney encounter after producing a powerful second-half display to defeat Australia 50–19 at Eden Park.

The Wallabies were competitive in the opening half, but the All Blacks took control after the break to secure a convincing victory and retain the Bledisloe Cup for a 24th consecutive year.

The challenge for Rennie will now be to maintain that momentum while managing the loss of four squad members. The second Test offers Australia an opportunity to respond on home soil, although New Zealand will aim to demonstrate the depth of their squad despite the injury setbacks.

Wallabies also hit by injuries

Australia have their own selection concerns ahead of the return fixture. Centre Len Ikitau has been ruled out after a head knock, while Jordan Petaia is unavailable because of an ankle injury.

The Wallabies have called up Corey Toole and Kadin Pritchard as replacements. Their preparations have also been affected by Hunter Paisami’s suspension.

With both teams dealing with significant absences, the Sydney Test will provide another test of squad depth as the rivals continue one of international rugby’s most closely followed contests.
