Zambia Beat Namibia 3-0 to Take COSAFA U-20 Bronze

MAPUTO, Mozambique — Zambia won the COSAFA U-20 bronze medal match 3-0 against Namibia on Sunday.

Gift Mumbi and Sipho Muntanga, who scored twice, were the goalscorers.

Zambia had lost 4-2 to South Africa in Friday’s semi-final after leading through Duncan Musialela. A red card and two penalties turned that tie. Namibia had gone unbeaten in the group stage, then lost 3-0 to hosts Mozambique in the other semi-final.

The finalists, South Africa and Mozambique, qualify for the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana. Sunday’s play-off decided third place only.

Zambia controlled the bronze match and finished with a clean sheet after a tournament that also included a 3-1 win over Botswana and a 3-0 against Comoros. Namibia had beaten Seychelles 3-0 and Mozambique 1-0 in the groups before the semi-final collapse.

Muntanga’s brace and Mumbi’s goal gave the Young Chipolopolo a podium finish in Maputo. Namibia take fourth after a week that promised more than a play-off.
