Morocco sit sixth with 1,803.99 points, just 0.93 behind fifth-placed Brazil. That is Africa’s highest FIFA ranking in 32 years, since Nigeria reached fifth in April 1994. The Atlas Lions rose one place after their World Cup quarter-final run.

Senegal remain Africa’s second-ranked team despite slipping three places after the World Cup. Egypt sit third on the continent. Nigeria, who missed the 2026 finals, are fourth in Africa and 26th globally as they open AFCON qualifying against Madagascar this week.
Further down, Ghana are 65th worldwide, Cape Verde 64th and Burkina Faso 62nd. Results in the present window — including Nigeria’s Group L ties and other CAF qualifiers — will feed into the October table.
Spain reclaimed top spot after winning a second World Cup. Argentina dropped one place as runners-up. Norway were the biggest climbers after the tournament, rising 12 places into the top 20. Tunisia were among the steepest fallers.
For African sides the October ranking will be the first meaningful snapshot of the post-World Cup cycle, as qualifying for AFCON 2027 in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda gets under way.
