Lima, who had already lowered the competition record in the earlier rounds, produced another strong performance in the final to claim gold. His time further underlines the rising depth of Brazilian hurdling, particularly in the absence of world-class specialist Alison dos Santos.
The result strengthens Brazil’s position as one of the leading forces in South American athletics at these Games.
In the women’s 400 metres hurdles, Panama’s Gianna Woodruff delivered a commanding performance to take gold in a Games record of 54.11 seconds. The experienced hurdler controlled the race and added another major title to her collection.
