The People’s Elephants fell 2-3 at home to promoted side Sporting Lagos on Wednesday, leaving them bottom of the table without a single point from four matches.
Stanley Dimgba gave Enyimba the lead just before half-time, but Abdullahi Abdulraqeeb equalised early in the second half. Tobi Ige Iyanda restored the hosts’ advantage from the penalty spot in the 54th minute, only for Haruna Hadi to level again. Substitute Daniel Aboh then scored the winner for Sporting Lagos in the 69th minute.
It is the first time in 27 years that Enyimba have failed to win any of their opening four league fixtures. Both of their most recent defeats came at the Enyimba Stadium, following earlier losses to Niger Tornadoes and Doma United.
While Enyimba struggle, Barau FC moved to the top of the table with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Abia Warriors. Goals from Joseph Atule (22’) and Ibrahim Ayoola (61’) kept the Maliya Boys unbeaten on 11 points from five matches.
Defending champions Rangers International remain just one point behind after a late 1-0 win over Ranchers Bees, with Chidozie Iwundu scoring the decisive goal ten minutes from time.
Doma United, who started the matchweek at the summit, dropped to third after a 2-2 home draw with Plateau United. Elsewhere, Bendel Insurance, Kwara United and Shooting Stars all recorded 2-1 or 2-0 victories, while Inter Lagos and Kano Pillars shared the points in a 1-1 draw.
The final Matchday 5 fixture takes place on Thursday when Rivers United host Kun Khalifat.
