Cobolli and Menšík dropped a break early, then took control. “It’s the third year I came to the Laver Cup and I had never won a match, so I’m really happy,” Cobolli said. “It happens here in London where I love to play, especially with one of my best friends on Tour.”
Menšík is 2-0 in doubles this week. He partnered Carlos Alcaraz on Friday to beat Alexander Bublik and Fritz.
Team World had cut the gap on Saturday with two singles wins, including de Minaur saving a match point against Zverev. The three-point Sunday format means one more Europe win ends the contest.
Alcaraz had saved two match points to beat Fritz on Saturday. Denis Shapovalov and others have featured for World. The London crowd now waits on Zverev against Tien.
If the German wins, Europe take the Laver Cup. If Tien wins, World stay alive and the remaining singles become decisive. Cobolli’s first Laver Cup win may already have been the turning point.
