The 27-year-old was rushed to Case Hospital following the incident on Tuesday evening but later succumbed to his injuries. Club officials confirmed the tragic news on Wednesday morning.
Owori had featured for the Jogoos in the FUFA Super 8 just days earlier, when SC Villa drew 1-1 with Maroons FC in the first leg of their quarter-final tie at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
A versatile player capable of operating in midfield or at right-back, Owori rejoined SC Villa in 2023 after spells in Spain and Sweden. He played a key leadership role as the club won the Uganda Premier League title in recent seasons and lifted the FUFA Super 8 last year.
Tributes have poured in from across Ugandan football for the popular skipper, widely respected for his work rate, discipline and commitment on and off the pitch.
