NFF Sets Up Fact-Finding Committee After Super Falcons’ World Cup Exit

ABUJA, Nigeria — The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has constituted a fact-finding committee to investigate the recent poor performances of the country’s national teams, with particular focus on the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The decision follows Nigeria’s disappointing campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The 10-time champions were eliminated in the quarter-finals before losing 2-1 to South Africa in the play-off that would have secured a place in the inter-confederation qualifiers.

The failure means Nigeria will miss the Women’s World Cup for the first time since the tournament’s inaugural edition in 1991.

Ambassador Fanny Amun, MON, will chair the committee. The other members are former Super Eagles coach Ladan Bosso, former Super Falcons captain Desire Oparanozie, former Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju, and Dr Alex Mana. Nasiru Jibril (also reported as Mallam Nasir Sa’idu in some statements) will serve as secretary.

The NFF said the committee has been tasked with examining the factors behind the setbacks and making recommendations to improve the fortunes of Nigeria’s national teams going forward.

The move comes amid widespread disappointment over the Super Falcons’ early exit from a tournament they entered as defending champions and favourites.
