The 51-year-old replaces Bubista (Pedro Leitão Brito), who left the national team to take charge of Moroccan club RS Berkane.
Bettencourt steps up from his previous role as assistant coach, having worked closely with Bubista during Cape Verde’s historic campaign that included qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and a memorable run to the round of 32.
The appointment ensures continuity within the technical setup of the Blue Sharks. Bettencourt played a key role in the team’s progress in recent years and now takes full responsibility for leading the side into the next phase of their development.
Cape Verde will look to the new head coach to build on the foundations laid during the successful Bubista era as they prepare for upcoming international commitments.
