Algeria and Morocco Seal Qualification for 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup

RABAT / CASABLANCA, Morocco — Algeria and hosts Morocco have both secured their places at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil after reaching the semi-finals of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The two North African sides booked their tickets through strong quarter-final performances on Saturday.

Morocco defeated former champions South Africa 2-1 at Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat. Goals from Sakina Ouzraoui and a Hanane Aït El Haj penalty proved decisive, despite a late reply from Thembi Kgatlana.

In the other quarter-final, Algeria produced a composed second-half comeback to beat Côte d’Ivoire 2-1 in Casablanca. After falling behind to an Inès Konan strike, the Fennecs responded through Inès Khiri and Amira Ould Braham to claim a historic first appearance in the WAFCON last four.

Automatic Qualification

Under the current qualification system, the four WAFCON semi-finalists earn automatic places at the Women’s World Cup. Morocco and Algeria therefore join the two remaining semi-finalists in securing passage to Brazil 2027.

Both teams will now turn their attention to the semi-finals on Wednesday, 12 August, with the dual incentive of competing for the continental title and building momentum ahead of their World Cup campaigns.
