Career path so far
Abdel Kader has always been a product of the Egyptian system. Born in 1999, he came through the Al Ahly academy before a short spell with Sparta Prague’s reserve side in the Czech Republic. He returned home, spent a productive loan season at Smouha (where he scored regularly and announced himself as a first-team prospect), and then forced his way into the Al Ahly senior squad.
At the Red Castle he contributed to league titles, cups and CAF competitions, showing the ability to play as a left winger who cuts inside onto his stronger right foot or as a more central attacking midfielder. A subsequent loan to Qatar SC added Gulf experience, and earlier in 2026 he completed a permanent move to Iraqi side Al-Karma. That spell was short-lived. Within months, the opportunity to return home on better terms presented itself.
Why Pyramids makes sense
Pyramids have been one of the most active and ambitious sides in Egyptian football in recent seasons. Under the ownership structure that has poured resources into the project and with Rulani Mokwena now shaping the squad, the club continues to target experienced Egyptian talent capable of competing on two fronts — the domestic league and the CAF Champions League.
Abdel Kader fits the profile. He is still in his mid-twenties, knows the league inside out, can operate in multiple attacking roles, and arrives with the motivation of proving himself after leaving Al Ahly. For a side that has already been rotating its attacking options and looking for depth, he offers a ready-made solution rather than a long-term project.
Reports indicate Al Ahly had recent contact about a possible return, but the player’s financial demands were considered too high by the club. During those discussions Abdel Kader made it clear he had a strong offer from Pyramids. Once talks with his former club stalled, the path to the blue side of Cairo opened fully.
What it means
This is not a blockbuster signing that will dominate headlines across the continent, but it is a smart, practical piece of business. Pyramids strengthen their attacking options with a player who understands the physical and tactical demands of Egyptian football. Abdel Kader gets a platform to play regular football in a competitive environment and the chance to rebuild his profile closer to home.
For Egyptian football more broadly, it is another example of talent circulating between the big clubs rather than being lost permanently to leagues further afield. Whether he becomes a regular starter or a high-impact squad player under Mokwena will depend on form and fitness, but the four-year commitment suggests both parties see a medium-to-long-term role.
