Married Couple Feature for South Africa in 2026 WAFCON Opener

CASABLANCA, Morocco — South Africa midfielders Robyn Moodaly and Gabriela Salgado, who are married to each other, both appeared in Banyana Banyana’s opening 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations match against Tanzania.

The pair featured in the same game as South Africa lost 1-2 at the Moulay Rachid Stadium. Reports note this as the first instance of a married couple playing together in a WAFCON fixture.

Moodaly and Salgado, both of whom play for JVW FC, were selected in Desiree Ellis’s squad for the tournament. South Africa remain in Group B and next face Côte d’Ivoire.
