Although karate is not part of the official sports programme at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, Dimkpa emphasised that the KFN stands firmly behind the Nigerian team, joining millions of citizens in offering unwavering support.
The federation leader also used the opportunity to commend the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC), particularly Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, for providing comprehensive technical, logistical, medical, and welfare support to the athletes.
He called on all Nigerians to rally behind the contingent through prayers and encouragement, highlighting the nation’s enduring spirit of resilience.
Leadership Stability in Nigerian Karate
Engr. Elekwachi Chukwudi Dimkpa was recently reaffirmed as KFN President by the NSC, resolving previous electoral disputes and bringing stability to the federation.
A qualified engineer and experienced sports administrator with fellowships from the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) and the Nigerian Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (FNIEEE), Dimkpa has a track record of investing in the sport’s development, including organising championships and supporting international participation.
The NSC’s decision has been welcomed as a step towards unity and progress in Nigerian karate administration.
Nigeria’s Campaign in Glasgow
Team Nigeria is competing in several disciplines at the Games, which run from 23 July to 2 August 2026. The contingent is expected to feature prominently in events such as athletics, weightlifting, boxing, and para-sports, with several athletes identified as strong medal prospects.
