The club confirmed the five-year deal on Tuesday. The Croatian defender’s previous contract was due to run until 2028. The new agreement includes improved terms and a salary rise, underlining City’s determination to retain one of their key players.
Gvardiol, 24, has made 122 appearances and scored 13 goals since joining from RB Leipzig in 2023. He has contributed to six major trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup and Club World Cup, and was named City’s Player of the Season for 2024-25.
“As soon as I knew City wanted to renew my contract, I felt straight away it was what I wanted,” Gvardiol said. “The City fans have been unbelievable with me from day one and the club provide absolutely everything for players. It’s the best club in the world to be at.”
Director of Football Hugo Viana added: “Josko is a player this Club really believes in. He is young, an outstanding professional and already one of the best defenders in the world. Manchester City are committed to keeping our best talent.”
