Led by league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder bounced back strongly from their disappointing Game 4 defeat to take a crucial 3-2 series lead in front of a roaring home crowd in Oklahoma City.
Gilgeous-Alexander delivered a superstar performance with 32 points and nine assists, controlling the tempo throughout the night while attacking the Spurs defense relentlessly. The Thunder guard also dominated from the free-throw line, converting 16 of his 17 attempts in a composed and clinical display.
The defending champions received major support from across the roster as Alex Caruso added 22 points, while rookie sensation Jared McCain chipped in with 20 points off the bench. Chet Holmgren also recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds to help OKC dominate key moments of the contest.
After entering the game with momentum following their dominant Game 4 victory, the Spurs struggled to contain Oklahoma City's fast-paced offense. The Thunder exploded for 40 points in the second quarter, creating separation that San Antonio failed to recover from.
San Antonio still produced flashes of quality, with rookie guard Stephon Castle leading the team with 24 points and six assists. Victor Wembanyama finished with 20 points, six rebounds, and three blocks, but Oklahoma City’s defense limited his overall impact compared to earlier games in the series.
The Spurs also endured a difficult night from the field as stars Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox struggled with efficiency against OKC’s aggressive defensive schemes.
With the victory, Oklahoma City now holds a commanding 3-2 advantage in the Western Conference Finals and will head into Game 6 in San Antonio with a chance to secure a place in the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks..
