Spanish giants Barcelona have officially completed the signing of England winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in a blockbuster deal worth around £70 million (€80m), making him one of the club’s biggest signings of the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old winger has signed a five-year contract with the Catalan club, keeping him at the Spotify Camp Nou until 2031 after successfully completing his medical in Spain.
Barcelona confirmed the transfer on Friday, with the move reportedly pushed strongly by manager Hansi Flick as the La Liga champions continue rebuilding their attacking line ahead of the new season.
Gordon arrives in Spain after an impressive campaign with Newcastle United, where he scored 17 goals and provided five assists in 46 appearances across all competitions during the 2025/26 season.
The England international also impressed in the UEFA Champions League, becoming one of Newcastle’s standout performers throughout the campaign. His pace, direct attacking style, pressing ability and versatility on the wings reportedly convinced Barcelona to make a major financial commitment despite ongoing concerns surrounding the club’s finances.
Speaking during his unveiling, Gordon described the transfer as a “dream come true” and expressed his excitement about joining one of the biggest clubs in world football. Reports also revealed that he impressed Barcelona supporters by speaking Spanish during his first official presentation.
Barcelona reportedly fought off competition from several European clubs, including Bayern Munich, before reaching a full agreement with Newcastle.
For Newcastle, Gordon’s departure marks the end of a successful spell at St James’ Park after joining the Magpies from Everton in 2023. During his time on Tyneside, he developed into one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attacking players and became a regular member of the England national football team squad.
Barcelona supporters will now hope Gordon can form a dangerous attacking partnership alongside stars like Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Frenkie de Jong as the club targets domestic and European glory next season.
The transfer is expected to be one of the headline moves of the 2026 summer transfer window, with Barcelona sending a strong message to their European rivals ahead of the new campaign.
